MWC 1999-2001 Pattern Black PVD Automatic Military Divers Watch - Sapphire Crystal and 60 Hour Power Reserve
Description
SKU: DIV2001/PVD/AUT
MWC first produced this 300m/1000ft water-resistant diver's watch in the early 1990s, with periodic updates. The 1999-2001 dial design remains popular for its clear, uncluttered layout and excellent nighttime performance. This model retains that dial style, now using Luminova instead of tritium, while maintaining the encircled "T" for historical significance.
There is an interesting story relating to these particular pattern of watches because although they were originally discontinued in 2007, an MWC distributor in Australia rediscovered 500 quartz versions of this model in storage a few years ago, the watches had been overlooked when the current owner's father retired. Why 500 were still there nobody could recall but back around 2000, they had an ongoing procurement contract to provide 500 units per year. When the watches were found, we bought them back to Europe, and thoroughly checked, and pressure tested them. Their popularity led us to reintroduce the design with significant upgrades across the range, such as sapphire crystals, and 120-click bezels.
The PVD-treated case, commonly used in military contracts, undergoes a plating process that alters the steel at a molecular level for long-lasting durability. The case design, originally made by Swiss firm MRP S.A., has remained largely unchanged since the 1970s and has been utilized by renowned brands like Precista, Nilax, Heuer, and CWC.
This watch follows the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) specifications and comes equipped with a 20mm NATO strap.
